Journey to Running for State Legislative Office
-
Politics in Teens: As a teenager, Lopez became highly interested in the political process and began to create life plans which involved running for political office. The institution which captured their imagination for bettering the world, and serving the people of West Virginia was the House of Delegates. This political ambition also led to all social media handles being some form of @Lopez4Change.
-
Running for Oak Hill City Council (Ward 2): In the same year as graduating high school with honors, starting university, getting around to getting their license, and supporting their mother in her battle with cancer Lopez ran for city council in Oak Hill, WV. Due to social anxiety, and the other obligations Lopez did little campaigning and performed poorly in the vote. Despite this, Lopez brought to light an issue with the voter rolls and managed to have it fixed by election day (though the issue did effect those who voted early).
-
University Student Government: During Lopez's time in university they served as senator, treasurer, vice president, and president of the student government association. In these roles Lopez advocated for students, oversaw student activity group spending, and supervised student elections during the lockdown.

Previously Planned Campaigns: Lopez over the years has made plans to run for political office, even stating such intentions publicly before being unable to run for such office. Such potential campaigns include prior election years for House of Delegates, State Senate, Ansted Town Council, Fayette County Commissioner, and a Write-In Campaign for State Treasurer. These bids were discarded due to lack of resources, work obligations, and/or being beyond unlikely to succeed.
