Colby taking the oath as WVU Tech SGA Senator, a commitment to service.
Colby Alexander Lopez is a young community-driven West Virginian committed to making a real difference for the people of the 51st House District, and the state as a whole.
Colby is the eldest child of a Mexican immigrant father and a born-and-raised West Virginian mother. Growing up through both economic highs and hardships, Colby developed a deep understanding of the struggles facing working families, the same struggles that define the lives of so many people in Fayette County. Their parents taught them the values of hard work, fairness, and compassion, and those values continue to guide Colby’s approach to public service.
Colby aims to improve life for all West Virginians, especially rural folk, the working classes, and families living paycheck to paycheck. Their policy views are shaped by lived experience, community needs, and years of personal study into the challenges West Virginia has faced across generations.
While attending WVU Tech, Colby served in the Student Government Association as Senator, Treasurer, Vice President, and President. These roles taught them how to manage budgets, solve problems, and lead during difficult moments, the experience they intend to bring to Charleston.
In 2019, Colby ran for Oak Hill City Council. During the campaign, they brought attention to an error in the voter rolls during early voting that caused hundreds of Ward 2 residents to be incorrectly told they could not vote. The issue was corrected before Election Day thanks to Colby’s advocacy. That year was also one in which they: graduated high school, began university, and helped support their mother during cancer treatments; experiences that strengthened their resolve to serve others.
Today, Colby lives in Ansted and works full-time in retail at the Walmart in Fayetteville. They know the challenges working people face because they live them every day. That is why Colby is running for the House of Delegates — to put people first, build a fairer economy, and secure a cleaner future for the next generation.

Showing up for our communities,
